The official currency in Poland is the Polish złoty (PLN), which consists of 100 groszy. In 1995 the full exchangeability of the złoty was introduced. There are also no restrictions on Poland as to the converibility of the złoty in relation to other currencies. The exchange rates of most currencies are set daily by the Central Bank, however, the rate of the złoty is fully independent and determined on the basis or current supply and demand.
Poland is one of the fastest-developing countries in Central Europe. Since 1989 it has observed a significant economic growth. At present, the GNP equals 11.000 USD per capita. Because of many years’ delay caused by the previous communist regime, the country is undergoing an intensive reform process. Some of the reforms have already been successfully completed (tax reform, administrative reform), some, however, are still in progress (social insurance, health service).
